=(16 + 22 + 17) % of 8000 
=(55/100) x 8000

How to solve Bar Diagram Questions in Data Interpretation?

Directions (Q. 1 to 5): Study the following graph and answer the questions below it:

Number of students from various faculties studying in various colleges (Number in Thousands)





1. What is the ratio of the number of students from the faculty of Arts studying in college C to the number faculty of Arts studying in college D?

(a) 13:10
(b) 9:13
(c) 13:9
(d) 10:13
(e) None of these


Answer: Option (a) 13:10

Explanation:

Number of students from the faculty of Arts:

From college C = 32500

From college D = 25000

=> Required ratio = 32500:25000 = 13:10



2. What is the average number of students studying in college A from all the faculties together?

(a) 28500
(b) 26000
(c) 26500
(d) 27000
(e) None of these

Answer: Option (e) None of these

Explanation:

Required average = (25+27.5+30)/3 = 82.5/3 = 27.5 (thousand) = 27500 



3. What is the average number of students from the faculty of Arts from all the colleges together?

The aim of the Data Interpretation section is to test not only your Quantitative Skills but also Relative, Comparative and Analytical Ability.


Important Points:


1. Data Interpretation is a section were questions are based on the given Data (information).

2. The data can be presented as

  • Bar Diagram,
  • Tabular Column, 
  • Pie Chart,
  • Graph. 
3. Sound Knowledge of Quantitative Techniques are required to score high in this section.


Points to Remember:


1. Get a general picture of the given data before reading the question.

2. Analyze the given data carefully with the titles given. 

3. Generally, the questions asked in this section does not require lengthy calculations. So, avoid lengthy calculations.

4. Most questions simply require reading the given data correctly and carefully applying the basic Mathematical Rules, Principles and Formulae.

5. Use only the given information and your knowledge of basic facts such as number of hours in a day to answer the questions.

6. Be careful while dealing with units.

7. Breakdown lengthy question into smaller parts and eliminate impossible choices.
